Description
Please note that: we are not currently hiring for this role at this moment, but we encourage you to apply and be among the first candidates considered when the position becomes available.
The Role
We're looking for a Data Scientist to do the quantitative analysis behind a large-scale data quality program. When our data engineering team's monitors flag a statistical anomaly in large, human-generated rating and annotation data, you'll be the one who determines whether it's genuine signal or ordinary noise, and if it's real, what's actually driving it. You'll triage confirmed findings into the right remediation lane, turn your analysis into fast-turnaround diagnostic write-ups, and help build the dashboards and reporting views that make your findings visible to the team and stakeholders. You'll operate on a two-week sprint cadence as part of a small, distributed team, reporting into the program's Data Scientist Lead.
What You'll Do
- Take anomalies flagged by the data engineering team's monitoring systems and apply statistical methods (hypothesis testing, distributional comparisons, cohort/segment analysis) to classify each as genuine signal or ordinary noise/drift.
- Run root-cause analysis on confirmed anomalies in rating/annotation data — for example, comparing cohorts to identify what distinguishes an outlier group from the rest of the population — to identify the likely driver.
- Triage confirmed findings into the correct remediation lane: contributor-side issues (route to our internal Quality team for remediation) versus process-side issues (route back to the client's program team as a guideline or workflow fix).
- Turn analysis into clear, concise, fast-turnaround diagnostic write-ups that feed the team's stakeholder cadence, owned by the Data Scientist Lead.
- Build and maintain the dashboards and reporting views (in partnership with data engineering) that surface anomaly trends, cohort findings, and turnaround metrics to the team and stakeholders.
- Work within tight, SLA-driven turnaround windows, delivering diagnosis-ready findings within hours — not days — once an issue is flagged.
- Participate fully in a two-week sprint cadence: sprint planning, review, and continuous improvement of analysis methodology.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with data engineers, the Data Scientist Lead, and program/quality stakeholders across a distributed, international team.
What You'll Need
- 3+ years of professional experience as a Data Scientist, Statistician, or Quantitative Analyst.
- Strong background in statistical analysis and hypothesis testing — comfortable choosing and applying the right test (e.g., distributional comparison tests) to determine whether two groups genuinely differ.
- Strong proficiency in Python and SQL, including standard statistical/analysis libraries.
- Demonstrated experience distinguishing genuine patterns from noise or drift in large, messy, human-generated datasets.
- Experience with BI/dashboarding tools (e.g., Looker, Tableau, Data Studio).
- Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments with short sprint cycles.
- Strong written and verbal English communication skills; comfortable producing clear write-ups for both technical and non-technical audiences.
Nice to Have
- Experience with anomaly and drift detection on human-rated, crowdsourced, or annotation-based datasets.
- Prior experience in a data quality, trust & safety, content moderation, or crowdsourced-data environment.
- Familiarity with cohort or segmentation profiling techniques for large populations.
Project Overview
Location: Remote from Finland
Type: Full-time, fixed-term engagement of approximately 6 months, with potential to extend based on program needs.
WE OFFER
