Kuvaus
Founded in 1909, Mehiläinen is a rapidly growing healthcare company that strongly invests in the possibilities of digitalisation and innovation. We are on a journey towards an ambitious goal: to be the leading healthcare company in Europe by 2030. Our growth story has already taken us to seven countries, driven by modern technology and the experts who make us a frontrunner in the industry. IT plays a strategic role here — we are a business enabler.
We are looking for an experienced and innovative Lead Developer to strengthen our team.
In this role, you will be responsible for leading and developing software development with an emphasis on AI-driven solutions and modern architecture. Do you want to be part of our success story? If you are passionate about building the future of healthcare and leading the development, you could very well be our next team member. As a Lead Developer, you will work across the following domains by leading through collaboration, driving both technical outcomes and team capability forward.
AI-driven development Production-proven experience with AI coding tools (Claude Code, Cursor, Codex or equivalent).
Set up, operate and continuously improve multi-agentic development environments.
Prompt engineering and context management for code generation workflows.
Evaluation and governance of AI-generated code (quality, security, drift).
Staying current with the rapidly evolving AI tooling landscape.
Architecture and design Comprehensive solution and system architecture design.
Domain-driven design, modular monolith and microservices trade-offs.
API-first design (REST, GraphQL, event-driven, async messaging).
Cloud- and infrastructure-agnostic architecture (vendor-neutral design patterns).
Technical debt management and architectural decision records (ADRs).
Non-functional requirements Information security by design (OWASP, threat modelling, zero-trust principles).
Scalability planning: horizontal/vertical, load profiling, capacity forecasting.
Performance engineering: profiling, caching strategies, query optimisation.
Observability stack: structured logging, distributed tracing, alerting.
Disaster recovery, fault tolerance and SLA/SLO consideration.
Regulatory and compliance Translating strict industry regulations into technical architecture.
Healthcare/finance domain compliance (GDPR, ISO 27001, local sector regulations).
Data residency, encryption-at-rest and encryption-in-transit requirements.
Audit logging, traceability and evidence management for compliance.
Regulatory change management — proactive architecture adaptation.
Cloud and infrastructure Multi-cloud and hybrid deployment design (AWS/Azure/GCP-agnostic).
Infrastructure as Code, container orchestration.
CI/CD pipeline design and DevSecOps integration.
Cost optimisation and right-sizing practices.
Engineering craft Deep proficiency in at least one backend and one frontend language/ecosystem.
Test strategy ownership: unit, integration, contract, E2E and performance testing.
Code review culture: constructive, consistent, with automated gate integration.
Documentation as a first-class deliverable.
Open source / inner source awareness and dependency governance.
Leadership and collaboration Business stakeholder engagement: functional and non-functional requirement co-definition.
Technical roadmap ownership and prioritisation input.
Mentoring and participation on competence development of the engineering team.
Estimation, scope negotiation and delivery risk communication.
Requirements
Strong experience in software development and technical team leadership by example.
Proven track record of successfully implementing AI-driven solutions.
Deep understanding of and practical experience with modern architectural principles and cloud technologies.
Ability to translate complex business requirements into technical solutions, considering non-functional requirements and regulatory compliance.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
At least 7 years of professional software development experience, with a minimum of 3 years in a technical lead or architect role.
A relevant higher education degree (e.g. computer science, software engineering, information systems or equivalent); significant practical experience may be considered in lieu of a formal degree.
Experience working in healthcare, finance or another regulated industry, with a solid understanding of compliance and data privacy requirements (GDPR, ISO 27001 or equivalent).
Fluent English (written and spoken); Finnish or another Mehiläinen Group language is considered an advantage.
Demonstrated ability to define and enforce engineering standards, conduct effective engeering reviews, and drive a culture of technical excellence across a team.
Experience owning a technical roadmap and contributing to product and architecture decisions at a strategic level.
Proven ability to mentor and develop engineers, growing individual and team capability over time.
Personal success factors A growth mindset — you enjoy challenges and embrace opportunities to develop both professionally and personally.
A hands-on, can-do attitude — you are not afraid to roll up your sleeves and take ownership.
Comfort navigating ambiguity and making pragmatic decisions under pressure.
Strong sense of ownership and accountability for quality and outcomes.
A collaborative spirit that brings out the best in the people around you.
