We are looking for an experienced Data Engineer to join Nestes retail business to shape how data drives informed and customer-centric decisions.
What will you be doing?
As a Data Engineer, you will join Nestes Data, Analytics & Insights team in Espoo, Finland. The team is a highly skilled group of eight professionals, working as internal consultants and helping Nestes Marketing & Services (Neste Markkinointi Oy) business unit to turn raw data into actionable insights that drive revenue and strategic decisions. Your focus is on ensuring that data solutions truly support business needs. You will work at the intersection of technology and business, collaborating closely with stakeholders across sales, marketing, and finance.
In addition, this role is closely tied to an ERP and data platform transformation project that is now approaching its final stage. The current CRM and key business data sources are being migrated to a cloud platform, designed to replace legacy reporting databases. As the project transitions to the continuous development phase, the focus shifts toward scaling, maintaining, and expanding the platform to serve all business needs.
As a Data Engineer, you will ensure long-term ownership and understanding of the new Snowflake-based platform running on Azure. You will work alongside the existing team and Nestes other data professionals, with the opportunity to take a key role in future development. Your responsibilities include developing and maintaining data pipelines and data models, especially using Data Vault 2.0.
At Neste, development is done in an agile, sprint-based model using modern tools such as Agile Data Engine, with data flowing from both batch and streaming sources, including Dynamics 365 as a key input. The team is also moving towards more advanced, agentic development practices, introducing the latest technologies and ways of working.
What makes you a great fit?
We are looking for an experienced Data Engineer who enjoys working close to the business and understanding the why behind data. You are proactive, self-driven, and comfortable navigating ambiguity in a complex environment. Your role will include collaborating with non-technical stakeholders, and therefore, we hope you know how to translate business needs into data solutions.
You take ownership of your work, collaborate naturally with different stakeholders, and can explain technical concepts in a clear way. You are motivated by building long-term solutions and improving how data is used across an organization.
We require you to have:
- Several years of relevant work experience in data engineering
- Hands-on experience with data modeling, especially Data Vault 2.0 is considered a significant advantage
- Experience working with Snowflake, Azure, or similar cloud environments
- Proficiency in Python or a similar programming language
- Ability to communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Proficiency in English language
We consider as an asset:
- Experience with Agile Data Engine
- Background in retail, e-commerce, or consumer business environments
- Finnish or Baltic language skills
Neste offers you:
- A role where you get to build a modern data platform that becomes the backbone of decision-making for the business
- A chance to grow into a key technical expert who shapes long-term data solutions and potentially leads development work
- A collaborative team where you influence what gets built and why, not just how
- Support from experienced data professionals and a wider global data community
- A personnel fund as part of the overall remuneration
- Good occupational health care, an extensive membership in a sickness or health insurance fund, and leisure time accident insurance
- Support for leisure time activities, e.g., by offering benefits for sports and culture (ePassi)
Practicalities:
This is a full-time and permanent position. You will be employed directly by Neste Markkinointi Oy. The preferred starting date is as soon as possible, realistically during August 2026. The role is based at Nestes headquarters in Espoo, and we work at the office at least three days a week to ensure seamless teamwork and a sense of belonging.
The recruitment process includes the following steps:
- Initial phone/video interviews with aTalent
- Technical assignment
- First interview with the Neste team
- Second interview with the Neste team
- Suitability assessments
