Kuvaus
As Senior Lecturer in Electrical and Automation Engineering, you will primarily contribute to the degree programme in electrical and automation engineering and to related applied research and development projects. The programme provides a broad foundation in the core areas of the discipline, while offering students the opportunity to specialize in electrical energy systems and advanced automation systems. The Turku region is home to a significant number of companies in the maritime industry cluster, which provides an important application context for electrical and automation engineering. Most of our teaching currently relates to Bachelor-level education, with the potential for involvement in Master-level programmes in the future. Research activities in this domain at Turku UAS have particularly focused on DC power systems and their control and management, offering a solid framework for project-based work and collaboration with industrial partners.
The position is versatile and may emphasize teaching, applied research, or a balanced combination of both, depending on the selected candidates expertise and interests. It also provides opportunities to initiate and develop new areas of applied research, complementing and extending current activities.
Key responsibilities in the role:
- Deliver and develop teaching in electrical and/or automation engineering related subjects
- Participate in and contribute to applied research, development, and innovation (RDI) projects
- Collaborating with industry and other stakeholders
- Supervise student groups, projects and theses.
WHAT WE EXPECT FROM YOU
- A masters degree or higher in electrical engineering, automation engineering, or a closely related field
- A minimum of three (3) years of relevant professional experience
- A completed teacher pedagogical qualification (60 ECTS credits), or strong commitment to obtain the qualification within a reasonable time after appointment
- Fluency in English; proficiency in Finnish is considered an advantage.
We value teaching experience as well as industrial or research experience in maritime-related electrical and automation systems, and/or experience in battery energy storage systems (BESS) and their applications in microgrids and heavy-duty charging infrastructure.
Experience in applied research projects and externally funded RDI activities, as well as demonstrated success in securing external research funding, is considered an advantage. Familiarity with Nordic or European energy systems and industrial environments are also regarded as beneficial.
WHAT WE OFFER
- A diverse role where you can participate in impactful and wide-ranging RDI activities
- Freedom and flexibility in managing your work, with opportunities to develop your expertise through research and development projects and collaboration with stakeholders
- Support from a multidisciplinary expert organization, including versatile support services and mentoring from experienced colleagues
- A skilled and pleasant workplace community
- Modern working and laboratory environments at EduCity on the Kupittaa campus in Turku.
The salary in this position is determined based on relevant years of work experience in accordance with the collective agreement for universities of applied sciences (Sivista AMKTES). Relevant work experience and entrepreneurial experience must be documented with certificates. Additionally, the following factors affect the salary:
- A doctoral degree increases the salary by 4%, and a licentiate degree by 2%.
- The absence of pedagogical studies results in a 6% salary reduction until the studies are completed.
- The absence of the required degree results in an 8% salary reduction until the degree is completed.
- In the field of technology, the salary is affected by an availability allowance, the coefficient of which depends on the job title and the number of relevant years of work experience.
