Researcher – Make an Impact Through Research and Development!
Tampere University of Applied Sciences (TAMK) is a multidisciplinary and working-life-oriented higher education institution where education, research, development and innovation activities (RDI), and service operations are seamlessly integrated.
TAMK is systematically strengthening its applied research activities and has introduced a researcher career path model. The first two stages of the career path, Researcher and Senior Researcher, are fixed-term four-year positions, while the third stage, Principal Researcher, is a permanent position. The researcher career path supports progression based on performance targets and experience criteria.
We are now seeking a Researcher to join our team and strengthen and develop our RDI activities at a strategic level within the researcher career path framework. The position will be linked to research projects and project preparation within the Faculty of Industrial Engineering. Suitable research areas include:
- Drone Technologies and Autonomous Devices
Research tasks may broadly focus on drone technologies and autonomous systems. Key research and development areas may include unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), autonomous systems, robotics, sensor technologies, positioning and navigation solutions, machine vision, AI-based decision-making, remote control and monitoring systems, communication and data transfer technologies, and the utilisation of drones and autonomous devices in industrial, logistics, safety, environmental monitoring and infrastructure maintenance applications.
- Electrical Energy Systems and Sector Integration
Research tasks may focus broadly on electrical energy systems and sector integration solutions. Key areas may include smart grids, energy storage systems, microgrids and security of supply, renewable energy utilization, and sector coupling.
- Semiconductor Device Technology and Electronics
Research tasks may focus on areas such as optimizing the efficiency and power density of electronics, thermal management, electronics design, and reliability with consideration of advanced semiconductor and packaging solutions. Research topics may include advanced packaging technologies and chip integration, miniaturization and thermal management challenges, or long-term reliability and testing of structures and integrated systems.
- Intelligent Digital Solutions
Research tasks may broadly focus on intelligent digital solutions and their application in the development of industry, automation and services. Key development areas may include software development, artificial intelligence and data analytics, IoT and embedded systems, cloud and edge computing, cybersecurity, as well as data management and integration solutions. Research may also focus on the development of real-time, scalable and autonomous systems and their integration into industrial environments.
Your specific responsibilities within projects and project preparation will be defined based on your background and expertise.
The position will commence on 1 September 2026 or as agreed.
Job Description
As an early-career researcher, you will work in a multidisciplinary and practice-oriented higher education community where research is closely connected to the needs of working life, education and regional development. You will act as an expert in research and development activities within your field and participate to some extent in teaching activities.
Your responsibilities include:
- expert and development tasks within a research group or team
- planning, preparation and implementation of research and development projects
- publishing research results and promoting societal impact
- networking within your field, including collaboration with partners and companies
- participation in teaching within your area of expertise
- supervising students, including thesis supervision
Requirements
We expect you to have:
- a doctoral degree in a relevant field (external applicants) or significant progress in doctoral studies (internal TAMK applicants)
- demonstrated expertise and competence within your field
- experience in research and publishing activities as well as project preparation and implementation
- evidence of successful acquisition of RDI funding
- established professional networks within your field
- readiness for multidisciplinary research collaboration
- experience in educational and teaching tasks and pedagogical competence
- excellent communication and collaboration skills
- fluent English language skills and sufficient Finnish language skills for possible teaching duties

- knowledge of funding instruments and project funding schemes
- teacher pedagogical qualification (60 ECTS) or willingness to complete it within three years of starting the position
