China Harbour Engineering Company Ltd. (CHEC) is a world-renowned international contractor and a leading provider of comprehensive services across the entire industry chain for both public and private sectors.
We are seeking an experienced Construction Site Safety Engineer to join our Kouvola project. In this role, you will work closely with the site safety manager and responsible for ensuring occupational health and safety compliance on construction site. The role promotes a strong safety culture and works closely with the safety manager, site management, contractors, and authorities to prevent accidents and occupational health risks.
Your responsibilities include:
- Health & Safety Compliance:Ensure compliance with Finnish HSE legislation and standards; develop and maintain site safety plans; act as the sites safety authority.
- Risk Management & Site Safety: Conduct inspections, audits, and risk assessments; approve method statements and work permits; ensure safe execution of high-risk activities.
- Training & Communication: Deliver site inductions and safety trainings; lead toolbox talks and safety initiatives; verify worker certifications (e.g., Safety Card).
- Incident & Accident Management: Investigate incidents and near-misses; prepare reports and corrective actions; liaise with authorities and insurers when needed.
- Monitoring & Reporting:Track safety KPIs; maintain required documentation; report safety performance to management.
- Collaboration & Safety Culture: Work closely with site teams and subcontractors; promote a proactive zero-accident culture; participate in safety meetings.
What we expect from you:
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience in construction site safety in Finland or a comparable regulatory environment. Experience with infrastructure, industrial, or large-scale construction projects is an advantage.
- Strong knowledge of Finnish construction safety regulations.
- Ability to work independently on active construction site.
- Clear communication and training skills.
- Assertive, solution-oriented approach to enforcing safety.
- Strong documentation and reporting skills.
- Ability to work with multicultural and multilingual teams.
- Fluency in Finnish and English.
