Kuvaus
We are seeking an experienced Construction Site Safety Engineerto join our Kouvola project, work location in Kouvola. In this role, you will work closely with the site safety manager and responsible for ensuring occupational health and safety compliance on construction sites in Kouvola. The role ensures that all site activities comply with Finnish Occupational Safety and Health legislations, including the Occupational Safety and Health Act (738/2002) and Government Decree on Safety in Construction Work (205/2009). The role promotes a strong safety culture and works closely with the safety manager, site management, contractors, and authorities to prevent accidents and occupational health risks.
Key Responsibilities
Health & Safety Compliance
- Ensure compliance with Finnish occupational safety legislation, regulations, and guidelines issued by authorities
- Develop, implement, and maintain site-specific HSE and safety plans.
- Act as the sites safety authority and advisor.
Risk Management & Site Safety
- Conduct regular site safety inspections, audits, and risk assessments.
- Review and approve method statements, risk analyses, and permits to work.
- Ensure safe practices for high-risk activities such as excavation, lifting operations, working at heights, and hot works.
Training & Communication
- Organize and deliver site safety inductions in accordance with Finnish requirements.
- Lead toolbox talks, safety briefings, and safety campaigns.
- Ensure all workers, including subcontractors, have valid safety training (e.g. Green Card – Työturvallisuuskortti).
Incident & Accident Management
- Investigate accidents, incidents, and near-misses.
- Prepare reports, root cause analyses, and corrective action plans.
- Handle communication with authorities (AVI) and insurance providers when required.
Monitoring & Reporting
- Track safety KPIs such as accident frequency, near-misses, inspections, and corrective actions.
- Maintain accurate safety documentation as required by law.
- Report regularly to project and company management on safety performance.
Collaboration & Safety Culture
- Work closely with site safety manager, site supervisors, engineers, and subcontractors to integrate safety into daily operations.
- Promote a proactive, zero-accident safety culture.
- Participate in safety meetings
Qualifications & Experience
- Degree or diploma in Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
- Työturvallisuuskortti (Occupational Safety Card)
- Hot work permit
- Any Finnish-recognized safety officer or HSE certification
Working Conditions
- Site-based role in active construction environments
- May require extended hours, early starts, or occasional weekend work
- Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) required at all times on-site
Requirements
- Minimum 3–5 years experiencein construction site safety in Finland or a comparable regulatory environment.
- Experience with infrastructure, industrial, or large-scale construction projects is an advantage.
- Strong knowledge of Finnish construction safety regulations
- Ability to work independently on active construction sites
- Clear communication and training skills
- Assertive, solution-oriented approach to enforcing safety
- Strong documentation and reporting skills
- Ability to work with multicultural and multilingual teams
- Fluent in Finnish and English
