Layout Design Engineer, Industry

We are looking for a Layout Design Engineer with strong expertise in hygienic design to lead layout development in demanding food and pharmaceutical projects. Could that be you?

Your role and the team

Join us as we continue to strengthen our Industry Business Unit, providing high-end engineering, design, and project execution services for our clients, while also supporting project sales activities! Food, Feed and Fertilizer is one of our strategic focus areas, and we are further strengthening our customer team, particularly with this sector. At the same time, we offer opportunities to work on projects across other industries, including process, pharmaceutical, and pulp and paper sectors.

The position can be based at our offices in Turku, Espoo, or Jyväskylä, please let us know your preferred location in your application.

As a Layout Design Engineer, you may have experience from various sectors within industrial or plant engineering. You have a solid understanding of hygienic design principles, food GMP requirements, and EHEDG guidelines, as well as experience working in food, beverage, or pharmaceutical environments where cleanability and contamination prevention are critical.

In this role, you will be responsible for designing hygienic layouts for food, beverage, and pharmaceutical production environments, ensuring compliance with industry standards and best practices. Your assignments will mainly focus on concept and feasibility stages, but you may also participate in later project phases. The scope of layout projects ranges from designing entirely new production facilities to implementing smaller modifications within existing production areas. Our customers range from start-ups to large international corporations, and our projects cover both greenfield and brownfield investments.

You will collaborate closely with project team members and customers, and in smaller assignments you may also take responsibility for customer communication and project coordination. What helps you succeed in this role

Our ideal candidate has already an extensive experience in hygienic design, or alternatively a few years of relevant experience combined with a strong motivation to develop further in the role.

• Bachelors or Masters degree in Engineering (e.g. Process Engineering, Food Technology, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field)
• A proven track record and strong experience in hygienic layout and factory design
• In addition to a strong theoretical foundation, we value practical industry experience, especially within bio-based and food processes
• Familiarity with food processing technologies and production processes

• Understanding of engineering and design processes, with the ability to evaluate the overall functionality of industrial facilities
• A flexible, solution-oriented, and positive mindset, with a desire to help customers succeed
• Ability to see the bigger picture and think creatively and innovatively when needed
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
• Proficiency in Finnish and English; other language skills are considered an advantage
• Willingness to travel
