Messman or Stewardess

08.01.17 Messman or Stewardess

The position requires the individual to have prior experience on working on a regasification vessel.

Reports To:

1\. Chief Steward or Chief Cook

Responsibilities

1\. Reports to the Chief Cook and carries out duties as directed by the Chief Cook.

2\. Responsible for cleanliness of all Officers cabins, messrooms, pantries, duty messes and recreational areas.

3\. In charge of issuing linen, doing laundry and ironing services, meal services, and assisting in daily cleaning of internal maintenance of accommodation and storerooms.

4\. Assists in the issuing of bond stores and in taking on stores and help organize accordingly

5\. Responsible for the disposal of the garbage of the catering department and must follow strictly the Garbage disposal policy when doing this and to report any irregularities to the Chief Cook.

6\. Must follow all ships and personal safety and food safety and safe food handling practices.

7\. Responsible for food service in Officers and crew mess rooms and washing dishes after meal times.

8\. Must prepare all items for the day fridges (juices, milk, yoghurts, cold cuts, cheeses, salads for salad bar, assorted salad for crew, condiments on the tables and in fridges, bread, etc..) and must make daily checks for expire dates and mark ready to eat foods with the production date.

9\. Must check temperatures of day fridges in mess rooms and pantries and must complete HACCP documentation accordingly with the correct readings and must report any irregularity to the Chief Cook.

10\. Must assist in basic functions like peeling potatoes, garlic, prepping vegetables, etc

11\. Must carry out any lawful command and delegated duty as issued by the Cook Steward / Chief Cook

12\. On vessels with no Second Cook the Second Cook duties should wherever possible be completed by the Messman. The Chief Cook must therefore make all reasonable efforts to train & coach the messman accordingly in order for the latter to complete these duties, and give recognition by way of appraisals given to the Master regarding the progress and performance of the mess man. (eg. assisting in preparation of crew meals, learning to bake bread and prepare desserts).Messmen must accept this cross training and coaching as part of their her Job Description and note that this will assist them in aspiring to promotion to the position of Second Cook
