About the role
As a Project Engineer, you will not perform direct design work. Instead, you will act as a technical coordinator and a vital link between designers, logistics, procurement, and the customer. You will report to the Project Manager regarding the technical success of the electrical and automation (E&A) scope in accordance with the contract specifications.
What We Offer
- Competitive Salary: €3,000 – €5,000+ / month depending on your previous experience and skill level. A salary above €4,000 requires proven project expertise and the readiness to take independent, comprehensive responsibility after the initial product onboarding.
- Flexible Hybrid Work Model: The office is located in Vaasa, where we expect you to work on-site for the majority of your working days. For a highly experienced professional, our client is ready to agree on a more flexible remote work arrangement (e.g., working from the Tampere or Helsinki area, including regular visits to Vaasa).
- Balanced Everyday Life: Working hours are flexible (7.5 h/day) with a working time bank. Although evening calls occur occasionally due to different time zones, working days are kept humane and flexibility works both ways.
Work tasks
- Technical Coordination and Supervision: Direct and supervise design work, review electrical and automation drawings, and ensure that procurements are made correctly from a technical perspective.
- Customer Interface and Technical Argumentation: Present and defend the chosen technical solutions directly to international customers and answer their questions confidently.
- Project Management: Coordinate the project scope from the foundations up to the medium voltage (MV) side (including engine auxiliaries and engine automation).
- Diverse Projects: Depending on the size of the projects, you will either manage several (max. 10) smaller automation upgrades simultaneously or 1–2 extensive engine and system retrofit projects.
Requirements: Skills and Background
Success in this role requires solid technical understanding and the ability to grasp large entities in constantly changing situations. We are not looking for someone straight out of school, but rather an experienced professional.
- Education: An applicable technical degree (e.g., Electrical Engineer, Automation Engineer, B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Engineering).
- Work Experience: Around 4–5 years (or more) of experience in the project business, industrial commissioning, field service, or a power plant environment.
- Core Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of either engine automation or plant automation – the other area can be learned on the job.
- Considered an Advantage: Experience with battery pack projects, battery concepts, or Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) is considered a significant asset.
- Language Skills: Fluent spoken and written English is mandatory. Finnish language skills are a strong asset. Other language skills (e.g., Spanish, Portuguese, French) are a plus.
- Travel Readiness: Readiness to travel globally to customer sites (approximately 30 travel days per year, mostly consisting of about one-week trips). A B-class driver's license is beneficial for site visits.
Personality and Working Style
We are looking for a team member with leadership-type accountability and excellent interpersonal skills.
- You are stress-tolerant and understand that the project world changes and evolves on a daily basis.
- You are a confident expert who dares and knows how to justify technical choices to the customer firmly but constructively.
- You work systematically and responsibly, even when managing multiple simultaneous projects.
- You are a social team player – close team spirit and a great "team-fit" are paramount to us.
