Join Beneq as an Automation Engineer - Advanced ALD Business Unit
Are you passionate about industrial automation and excited by designing the software that powers some of the world's most advanced Spatial ALD equipment? At Beneq, a global leader in Atomic Layer Deposition (ALD), we're looking for an Automation Engineer to join our Advanced ALD Business Unit, supporting the Spatial ALD Product Team. You will develop the automation and HMI software behind Beneq's next-generation ALD systems, working closely with mechanical, electrical, process and product engineering teams to deliver reliable, high-performance automation solutions for customers around the world. In this role, you'll contribute throughout the equipment lifecycle - from software design and simulation to testing, commissioning and continuous product development - helping shape the future of advanced Spatial ALD technology.
Your Role at Beneq
As an Automation Engineer, you will design, develop and maintain the automation software that controls Beneq's advanced Spatial ALD equipment. You will play a key role within the Spatial ALD Product Team, delivering automation solutions for some of the company's most advanced and innovative ALD platforms. In addition to project deliveries, your work will support the continuous development and maintenance of the current automation systems. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to translate customer and product requirements into robust automation solutions, participate in laboratory testing and global customer commissioning if required.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop and maintain software solutions that meet high safety and reliability standards for Beneq ALD equipment and integrated machine systems.
- Develop reliable machine control solutions with a strong focus on safety, quality and maintainability.
- Design and improve HMI applications and user interfaces for machine operation.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to gather and analyze requirements, translating them into technical specifications.
- Produce and maintain software documentation.
- Support software testing, laboratory simulations, equipment validation and troubleshooting.
- Participate in customer commissioning, installation and software upgrades worldwide.
- Support Service and Application teams with automation-related technical issues.
- Contribute to the continuous development of Beneq's automation architecture, tools and software development practices.
What We're Looking For
- Strong Engineering background with 4+ years of experience, typically BSc or MSc degree in automation engineering.
- Knowledge of PLC software development. Preferably of Beckhoff TwinCAT 3 PLC software, or Codesys environments and experience with IEC 61131-3 structured text. Other PLC software knowledge is also regarded as relevant if familiar with structured text coding.
- Experience with automation instrumentation and electrical drawings.
- Experience with servo drives and motors.
- Experience with HTML5-and JS-based HMI design tools is considered an advantage.
- Familiarity with DevOps practices.
- Familiarity in SQL databases (Postgres, MSSQL).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a structured way of working.
- Excellent documentation and communication skills.
- Customer-oriented mindset and ability to work independently and in multidisciplinary teams.
- Fluent written and spoken English.
- Willingness to travel globally is considered an advantage.
